The discovery in 2019 of the wreck of the submarine La Minerve, which disappeared in 1968 with 52 sailors on board, marked a turning point in French deep-sea exploration policy. Thanks to the American company Ocean Infinity and advanced underwater technologies, the wreck was located, highlighting the potential of new research methods aEine der Drohnen, die 2019 an der Entdeckung des Wracks der Minerve beteiligt warennd, above all, the shortcomings of the resources then available to France to carry out such operations autonomously.

This realization had a direct impact on the French Ministry of the Armed Forces, which decided to step up its investment in underwater surveillance and intervention capabilities. The rediscovery of La Minerve underlined the need for France, a leading maritime power, to better master the deep sea, particularly in view of the growing strategic stakes involved in protecting submarine cables, monitoring enemy submarines and safeguarding its own vessels in the event of an accident.

In response, Florence Parly, then Minister of the French Armed Forces, announced a plan to reinforce deep-sea exploration and surveillance resources.

This plan led to the development of the Seabed Warfare program, designed to equip the French Navy with underwater drones, remotely operated vehicles and new advanced detection capabilities

At the same time, collaborations with companies specializing in ocean exploration have been strengthened to improve France's ability to operate autonomously in the deep sea.

In this way, the rediscovery of La Minerve was not just part of a quest to remember; it also served as a catalyst for the modernization of French underwater exploration resources, at a time when mastery of the ocean depths has become a major strategic challenge.French program SEabd Warfare
